What to Do in Changsha
You will be amazed when you visit the early Han Dynasty Mawangdui Tombs, found in the eastern suburb of Changsha. The mummified remains of a Western Han Dynasty woman were discovered and excavated from the tombs together with thousands of unearthed relics – including paintings, lacquer works, silk products, pottery and more – all of which are exhibited in the Hunan Provincial Museum. The city is also famous for being the resting place of several leaders, including Chairman Mao Zedong. The Yuelu Academy, a school originally built in 976 AD during the Song Dynasty, is also worth a visit. The school survived through the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties and is thought of as the cradle of Huxiang culture.
